Jesus Christ: the Only Hope for Mankind
By John Hendryx
Take the time to reflect on our urgent need to herald the Gospel in our times. As long as humanity continues to trust and act according to its own wisdom, it will continue to increase the suffering, violence, poverty, injustice, discrimination and corruption in the world. The Holy Spirit through the prophet Isaiah said, “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!” (Isa 5:21) Many attempt to bring about peace to the world on their own terms. But “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…”Psa (127:1) While secularists may build and trust in their towers of Babel, the Lord alone will ultimately bring about justice on the earth. So do not trust in man who has but a breath in his nostrils. Only the biblical faith will ultimately bring a peace the world has never known.
On that Day when the Lord judges between nations, the Messiah will reign on the earth and the people will “beat their swords into plowshares and nation shall not life up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” This will not come about through the mere political schemes of man, but is a major event which the Lord has promised to bring about, and He will do it. When Christ returns to consummate the redemption of His people He will create a new heavens and a new earth where the citizens and leaders of his Kingdom will perfectly submit to His Sovereign rule. But to those who now refuse to yield to Christ, He is coming with his armies and will trample his enemies in the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. But He will grant pardon to all who abandon self-righteousness, their autonomy, their sins, and than fly unto the Lord Jesus Christ alone, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.(Col. 2:3)…
…”the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up–and it shall be brought low.” (Isa 2:12)
So is there any hope for humanity then? Yes we can rejoice that there is hope. This hope is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ alone. Thus Christ’s command to evangelize all people remains the top priority for us. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us (Eph 2:14). So if you seek a better planet, and actively work justice and peace in this world, abandon your own plans, which are vanity, for the heart of man is incapable of doing this on his own. Christ alone will bring this about through his people on that Day.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)
