For our “Benefit”

I had the wonderful opportunity to say a few words before my family sat down and ate our huge (delicious as well) Easter dinner. This is what I said. I got the inspiration for this from a Martin Luther Sermon that he gave on Easter Sunday.

For our “Benefit”

Our dear Lord Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection and the victory over sin, death, and hell that they brought about are the most pivotal moments that have ever happened or will ever happen in history. They are greater than you and I. They are greater than the heavens and the earth. Even if we were to magnify these things tens of thousands of times, Christ’s death and resurrection would still be greater! Just as the person of Christ is great, eternal, infinite, and even incomprehensible, so to is the gloriousness of His resurrection.

Christ bestows this resurrection, victory, and triumph on all who have faith in Him. For those of us who have faith, it would follow reason that even if you or I have millions of sins, deaths, and hells pressing down on our lives, these would just be mere sparks or drops when compared to Christ’s death, resurrection, victory, and triumph. If this is true, which obviously I believe it is, who or what can harm us? The economy, terrorists, republicans, democrats, sin, death, the world, the devil himself, or anything else we can think of? No of course not!!! Let us not only reflect on this day the great and wonderful events which happened in Christ’s person, but also let us pray that we may truly know and believe that all this happened for our benefit!! “…thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57
